Plagiarism Paper

This paper was assigned in PROV504 in Fall 2017. The writing is about, one of the most serious problems in academic studies, Plagiarism. And as graduate students in the U.S. we should always pay attention to it. Firstly it introduced what is plagiarism, which I did not know much about, and why people care about that. The point surprised me was that even if I use some sources or researches I have done before without citation it would also be considered as plagiarism. The concept was very important for not only scholars but also students since we might use both resources from others and ourselves. And then it also talked about how to avoid plagiarism in academic life. There were some useful methods such as citation and paraphrasing that help us while building our own project to avoid plagiarism. Since my native country did not care much about the citation styles it was the first time I know there were different citation styles and what style I should use and what the style looks like in my discipline. The paper helped me got more knowledge about academic studies and improved my writing skills and strategies at the same time.

Conference Proposal

The conference proposal was assigned on EAP508 in Fall 2016. In this proposal I learned to use CARS model to write a brief introduction paragraph of my project, which provides my exigence, relevance, purpose and new offering of the project clearly. I learned how to use the CARS model to create a research space and then follow the 3 moves to build a rough structure of my article. In addition, during the writing of the proposal I also did peer review to get advice from professor and classmates to help me improve it. This experience was helpful in my further study when I need to write thesis for my degree or research.
